The long-awaited Story: Mediaworks releases promo for Campbell Live replacement–UPDATED

Mediaworks has released its promo for its highly-anticipated new current affairs show Story, set to debut next month.

The promo features the different kinds of “stories” the show, hosted by Duncan Garner and Heather du Plessis-Allan, will tell: “his story, her story, the cover story, the untold story, the conventional, the controversial …” to name a few.

This seems to be hinting at Story’s reported mix of soft and hard news stories.

The show begins on Monday August 10 and will screen at 7pm on TV3 from Monday to Thursday and will be simulcast on RadioLive.

According to Mediaworks, Story will be a “smart, fun and thought-provoking show that will lead the way in daily current affairs.”

In a released issued by Mediaworks announcing the show, Garner seemed pretty pleased with his new role.

“I see this as a great chance to be part of a programme that will reflect our country and our lives – no matter where we live,” he says. “I expect us to have fun, to laugh, to entertain and to tell your stories. And when those in power in Wellington, or in your own community, make bad decisions, mislead you or are hypocrites, I promise – you can rely on us to keep them honest – simple.”

As did du Plessis-Allan, saying she was excited to be a part of a new chapter for TV3. “Duncan is one of the best journalists around so I’m stoked to be able to learn from him. But Duncan, if you’re reading this; don’t let it go to your head. I’m not your sidekick. In fact, they told me you’re my sidekick.”

Meanwhile, according to Throng Seven Sharp was the second most watched show on television on July 27 with 614,990 five-plus viewers while One News took out the number one spot with 820,890 viewers.

On July 20 Throng reported Mediaworks’ Come Dine with Me, which is screening in Campbell Live’s old 7pm slot, is still dragging with about 125,498 viewers per night. “The low ratings were dragged down by Thursday and Friday’s episodes which were the two lowest average audience figures TV3 has had at 7pm in more than a decade and were both below the 100,000 mark.”

Throng also reported Seven Sharp is up 4 percent to an average audience of 544,792 viewers per night. “Year-on-year, Seven Sharp was up 12 percent on the same period 12 months ago and 46 percent on the dismal results of 2013. For TV3 Mediaworks are now staring down the barrel at a 44 percent decline on 2014’s figures while on 2013 it’s a 60 percent drop.”

However, it should be noted that these ratings are in the five-plus category, not the 25-54 category which advertisers focus on.
