June ORCA dished out, second round of digi-award shouted about

The months are obviously getting closer together: the May winners of the ORCA’s were announced last week as The Radio Bureau did a bit of catching up. And the June certificates have also been handed out, with Karl Fleet and Tom Paine from Colenso BBDO taking out the top prize for their V Pocket Rocket Campaign for Frucor. Feast your ears on the June winning effort here.

Fleet and Paine have both been on the  the Grande ORCA podium in previous years. Paine took the Grande in 2007 when he was still at Ogilvy for his work on L&P (along with James Bowman and Chris Long) and Fleet was part of the Grande ORCA 2009 winning team for his work on the Outrageous Fortune campaign (here, here and here).

This month’s judges were Phil Yule, from The Voicebox, as well as Josh Lancaster and Jamie Hitchock, the founders of Josh&Jamie.

In other awards news, Yahoo!Xtra has kicked off round two of its Digital Strategy Awards after the launch, which was won by MEC for its Caltex with Techron campaign, in April.

“Digital media has grown over other media categories and comprised 11 percent advertising spend in 2009,” says Laura Maxwell-Hansen, Yahoo!Xtra’s general manager. “The awards reflect the growing relevance of digital media and recognise the key role it plays in the success of campaigns.”

The awards are judged quarterly, and entries for this quarter close Friday 13 August. Entries will be assessed by a panel of three, including regular judges Maxwell-Hansen and Helen Baxter from Mohawk Media, with a new guest judge soon to be confirmed. The four quarterly winners are eligible for the overall Y!X DSA Annual prize of $10,000 of media on Y!X, plus free entry into the CAANZ Media Awards Best Use of Digital category.
