HP goes to Darby day

Youtube Video

Rhys Darby continues to capitalise on his awksome (so awkward it’s awesome) Murray Hewitt-inspired profile in the US, this time as the front man in a big – like NZ$80 million big – campaign for Hewlett Packard called Let’s Do Amazing.

The Darby star just keeps on rising after his Flight of the Conchords role and, as well as starring in a few movies, he’s already featured alongside Roger Federer for Nike as a crazed tennis coach slash air guitarist. And, closer to home, he’s also fronted the very successful launch campaign for 2degrees.

In the HP ads, created by LA agency 72andSunny in an effort to broaden the reach of HP into other areas such as networking, sensors and music, Darby violates the likes of Dr Dre, Annie Leibovitz and a few others from UPS and the Venetian casino in Las Vegas, to find out about their particular brand of HP-related amazingness.

IT is usually a fairly serious business. But Rhys Darby is about as far from serious as you can get. So it’s a good juxtaposition and a pretty good way to personalise the tech behemoth in a way that shows it’s about more than just printers.

And check out a few of the other ads in the campaign that aren’t on HP’s YouTube channel, including a fairly entertaining internal HP video, here.
