Youtube VideoWho’s it for: State by Colenso BBDO and Ruskin
Why we like it: It’s either brave or foolish for State to trivialise accidents with a jaunty sing-a-long, especially after the events that have befallen the country in recent times and the role insurance companies have played in extending the suffering. But amid the fires and car crashes, the optimism shines through in this beautifully shot big boy.
Who’s it for: Pak n Save by DraftFCB
Why we like it: One of the best Stickman ads so far. And extra points for the fantastic response to the militant vegetarians.
Who’s it for: Sky by DDB and Finch
Why we like it: This one certainly wasn’t shouted about, possibly due to what it’s promoting. But forgoing the graphic for the self-deprecating is a good approach.
Who’s it for: ONE News by Spicer and Martin
Why we like it: ONE has really been gunning for Kiwi hearts and minds with its promos featuring high-profile New Zealanders. And its news promos do a good job of showing what New Zealanders like about the network—and how they consume its content.
Who’s it for: AA Insurance by Ogilvy
Why we like it: It’s not often you see an ad that tells consumers they need less of something. Or an ad with a moat filled with sharks around a car. A good way for Ogilvy to go out.
Who’s it for: Hallenstein’s by Publicis Mojo and Thick as Thieves
Why we like it: It’s a tough song to listen to. And it’s loaded with fashion cliches. But points for trying. Bring it on, ASA.
