Haier calls in local celebrities to create a battle of the sexes, homeware style

Haier, with Sherson Willis, is testing the truth behind the saying ‘men are from Mars and women are from Venus’ by watching Urzila Carlson and Pete and Andy Walker tackle household tasks in the ‘#HaierHomeHack series’.

The campaign was created to support the homeware brand’s sponsorship of TV3’s The Block NZ, which this year is themed ‘Girls vs Boys’. The series extends that competition as the Walker brothers, winners of the People’s Choice Award in the 2013 season of The Block NZ, and Urzila Carlson, a regular on TV3’s 7 Days, compare techniques to do the laundry, load the dishwasher and stack the fridge.

General manager of distribution Mark Baillie says Haier knows that household chores and general decision making can be points of conflict in the home and #HaierHomeHack series is a light-hearted way of looking at the way we interact with each other, and the appliances in our lives.

“When you take household chores and add to that the friction that can arise between men and women, who can have a different approach, it’s amazing how much debate it can create.”

He says Haier has also created a platform for Kiwis to join the conversation and share their own tips and tricks learnt from their experiences with renovation and chores.

“Hacks are a great conversation starter and a fun way of sharing inventive, clever tips on how to make life easier. We hope Kiwis will get online and have some fun with us by sharing their own experiences.”

The #HaierHomeHack videos will be released by Haier via Facebook and YouTube channels across The Block NZ’s runtime.

As well as the five hacks, Sherson Willis has created three 15-second TVCs to support the campaign.

Shot by Useful Films, the spots see the brothers banter about cooking, folding washing and posing.
