Flick Electric’s social initative campaign asks Kiwis to give a Flick

Flick Electric has launched a social initiative campaign that tackles energy poverty by giving away more than 5,000 energy-efficient LED light bulbs to homes in need – and is using social media to get Kiwis involved and raise awareness.

According to an Otago University study, energy poverty is a reality for at least a fifth of Kiwis, with 20 percent reporting they have gone without heating or power because they are unable to afford it.

As part of the campaign, short videos of well-known New Zealanders who have an interest, or expertise, in this space such as Dr Lance O’Sullivan, Malcolm Rands, and Matilda Rice are being used to share the message.

Among them is Jordan Watson, aka ‘How to Dad’, who has featured in other brands’ campaigns this year, such as Bayer New Zealand and Air New Zealand.

In this campaign Watson brings his usual humour, honesty and relatability to explain the facts of energy poverty and how to get involved with the campaign.

Utilising the power of social media, the company is asking people to spread the message on Facebook by sharing its video/animated content and for every share, it will donate an energy efficient lightbulb to a needy family.

Flick is working with a range of community agencies to distribute the bulbs – including the Auckland City Mission and Well Homes healthy housing initiative in Wellington, Wellington Women’s House and Dunedin Curtain Bank, and are currently locking in a distribution partner for Christchurch.
