Dancing with the Stars shelved for 2010

67a55a24e6d895e64abbThousands of middle-aged woman, several politicians and an array of media darlings are reeling at the news that TVNZ has decided not to commission Dancing With The Stars in 2010.

A TVNZ statement says the decision was made because the current market conditions do not support such an expensive show.

No word if the decision was based on finite New Zealand star resources, however.

Despite its huge popularity, the cost of mounting the multi-million dollar, BBC-format production has made Dancing With The Stars a very marginal venture for TVNZ, even in strong market conditions.

In a move applauded by Graham Henry, TVNZ says the show is being ‘rested’ and, if the market situation improves, it may look to re-establish the show in 2011.
