D&AD 2019: plenty of wood to go around, Colenso sees Yellow

Last night, the winners of the 2019 D&AD Awards were announced with local agencies scoring 11 pencils. Among them, it’s Colenso BBDO with the most to celebrate as it claimed four pencils including the only Yellow for New Zealand.

The Yellow pencil went to Colenso for the Spark Kupu app in the User Experience Design (UX) category. The app also picked up a Wood pencil in the Service Design category.

Colenso’s remaining two Wooden pencils went to the ‘Generation Voice’ campaign for Spark in the TV Commercials 41-60 seconds category, while the ‘I’m Drinking it for You’ campaign for DB took home a pencil in the Writing for Film Advertising category.

New Zealand’s only Graphite pencil this year went to Assembly for ‘Oat the Goat’ – an anti-bullying campaign for Ministry of Education. It won the pencil in the Websites category.

Beyond Colenso’s haul, there were six other Wooden pencils to go around New Zealand agencies.

Clemenger BBDO picked up two Wooden pencils across the night that went to the ‘Belted Survivors’ campaign for the New Zealand Transport Agency. The striking campaign was recognized in the Public Service Poster Advertising and Poster Advertising categories.

Another Wooden pencil went to Saatchi & Saatchi for the ‘Champions for Change’ campaign for Global women. It was recognized in the TV Commercial Campaigns category.

FCB contributed to New Zealand’s total with a Wooden pencil in the Writing for Social Media category for the Health Promotion Agency’s ‘Pre-Testie Bestie campaign’.

Meanwhile, VMLY&R claimed a Wooden pencil in the Use of Integrated category for TradeMe’s ‘R.I.P Simon the Sloth’ campaign.

Ogilvy also scored on the night, with a Wooden pencil in the Use of Talent and Influencers category for ‘The Most Dangerous Stunt in the World’ campaign for Auckland Transport.

Following last night’s wins, New Zealand’s total D&AD pencil haul since 1999 sits at 1 Black, 27 Yellow, 44 Graphite and 147 Wooden.
