Currency in the classroom: Kiwibank continues to bank on the next generation

Kiwibank and Banqer are on a quest to help Kiwi kids learn about the intricacies of financial literacy.

The campaign, produced by creative agency Wrestler, promotes the work fintech/edutech software company Banqer and Kiwibank do to educate kids in the classroom.

A new online spot shows kids disclosing their finances; talking mortgages, insurance and loans. While children have traditionally mapped their financial infrastructure around piggybanks, tooth fairies and raining Monopoly notes, the ad shows kids speaking maturely about money thanks to the Banqer platform.

It also prepares the next generation for the prospect of a cashless, digital economy.

The idea of mini virtual economies was unearthed in 2016 and the partnership forged when the co-founder of Banqer Kendall Flutey wrote a series of blogs on the Kiwibank website Inner.Kiwi about starting it up.

Kiwibank is currently funding the interactive financial software platform, which is used in 2,100 classrooms across New Zealand.

It’s a ploy departing Kiwibank general manager of marketing communications Regan Savage recently told StopPress he was most proud of, alongside the bank’s efforts in conservation.
