The brands celebrating the birth of Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gave birth to a baby girl, Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford, last Thursday. Social media reacted with happiness and congratulations came from all corners of the globe.

Here’s some examples released to celebrate the birth of the ‘Prime Miniature’:

Volkswagen

Volkswagen and FCB released ads for the Tiguan 7-Seater across different mediums. One example featured a red Tiguan on a red background with Ardern’s/Labour’s tagline ‘Let’s do this’, with ‘and again’ repeated four times over the top of the seats—the number of additional children Ardern and Gayford would need to fill the car.

The FCB creative initiative was developed ahead of the birth of Ardern’s baby, and FCB arranged for the New Zealand Herald to run it, online and in print, as soon as the news was announced. In print, the ad was placed inside a special wrap-around focusing on the birth. For online, FCB used a ‘parallax’ format, creating a window which reveals the ad as you scroll down the page.

Huggies

Huggies and Ogilvy also ran ad on Friday in the New Zealand Herald. Featuring rainbow rings combining to make a beehive it read:  “A warm welcome to our newest member of Parliament.”

Trade Me

Trade Me ran a digital billboard that said ‘Welcome little kiwi’ with a picture of a kiwi delivering a baby like a stork plus additional social media posts.

Best Foods NZ

In reference to the fact Ardern ate macaroni and cheese the day after giving birth, Best Foods NZ went out on a tenuous link and posted a recipe on its Facebook page.

Air New Zealand

In reference to its Skycouch cuddle class, Air New Zealand posted a cute onesie (will the baby get free flights for life too?)

PETA

PETA has sent the new family a faux-sheepskin baby rug. Explained in an accompanying card, sheep “suffer terribly in the production of the sheepskin rugs typically used in cribs, bassinets, playpens, or car seats – but faux sheepskin is soft, cosy, and far kinder to animals”.

Black Ferns

It wouldn’t be a Kiwi story without rugby featuring. The Black Ferns tweeted, congratulating Jacinda with a little Black Ferns tutu and using the hashtag #FutureBlackFern.

Google

On Google’s homepage on Friday there was a nod to the photo the couple posted to Instagram to announce their pregnancy—two fish hooks with a smaller one inside.

Coffee Cloud

And in one of the stranger ways to celebrate, coffee company Cloud Coffee created a 3D print of Ardern and Gayford with baby Neve.
