Barnes, Catmur & Friends ends Aussie dominance at Campaign Asia Pacific Awards

While it is common to focus on the major ad agencies at awards ceremonies, this can lead to missing out on the successes of other, equally important, contributors to the industry.

At the 20th instalment of the annual Campaign Asia Pacific Awards, Barnes, Catmur & Friends stole the show by becoming the first Kiwi agency to win the Australia/New Zealand Independent Agency of the Year category.

The ceremony, which occurred in Singapore on 11 December, capped off a great year for the indie agency, which was also awarded the Admedia 2013 NZ Agency of the Year title.

Managing partner of the agency Daniel Barnes attributed the success to his team and the clients.

“This is a fantastic acknowledgement of a great bunch of people and a great bunch of clients. With effectiveness at the forefront of everything that we do, we’ve shown that an indie from Auckland can make waves across the region,” he said.

And Paul Catmur, also a managing partner, injected a bit of dry Kiwi humour into the proceedings by adding, “I might even smile.”

But Barnes wasn’t the only agency to make its way to the stage on the night. OMD, OPEN and SparkPHD won gold, silver and bronze, respectively, in the New Zealand Media Agency of the Year category, bringing a successful end to 2013 for each of these agencies as well.
