DDB and BMW’s April Fools Day switcheroo made one woman very happy. And it’s also impressed the judges of the April Newspaper Ad of the Month award.
Judges Verity Dookia (Contagion), James Bowman (bcg2) and Josh Lancaster (Assignment) said it was “a refreshing April Fools ad that needed newspapers to work … and it definitely did that”. They also acknowledged the extension to the April Fools ad that ran the next day congratulating the winner.
Special mention was also awarded to Colenso BBDO for its NZ Breast Cancer Foundation ad.
Judges said: “It was lovely seeing a woman with wrinkles being celebrated.”
This month’s win adds another five points to DDB’s lead in the Agency League, and a point to Colenso bumps Barnes, Catmur & Friends down a notch. DDB receives $250 and the ad is entered into the $10,000 Newspaper Ad of the Year award.
News Works’ Ad of the Month and Agency League competition is open to any ad that has appeared on a New Zealand newspaper website or app, or in any print edition. Both digital and print entries vie together for the best monthly accolade, with only one individual ad to be selected top each month. To enter click here.
