APN Outdoor teams up with New Zealand Olympic Committee

APN Outdoor is joining forces with the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) as an official partner of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games teams through to 2020.

The partnership is the first time NZOC has joined forces with an outdoor media provider and is indicative of the growth and anticipated trajectory of the medium. According to SMI figures released in August, local agencies spend in outdoor for the 2016/2-17 financial year was $134,823,951, up 24.9 percent on the previous year. Compared to other media, it had the biggest growth, followed by digital’s 20.8 percent growth.

General manager of APN Outdoor Mike Watkins says the partnership with the New Zealand Olympic Committee signals an exciting new chapter for the company.

“APN Outdoor is excited to be backing the New Zealand teams as they take on the world at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games through to 2020,” he says.

“The Kiwi athletes getting set for the upcoming games are remarkable men and women. They epitomise what makes us proud to be New Zealanders and APN Outdoor can’t wait to work with the NZOC to help bring their stories and the games campaigns to life.”

The partnership comes ahead of a big year for sport in 2018, as three New Zealand teams will take to the world stage.

In February, a team of approximately 20 winter athletes are set to compete in the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, followed closely by a large New Zealand team heading across the ditch for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games from 4 to 15 April.

Finally, October will see the very best rising stars and young athletes from around the country head to Buenos Aires, Argentina to compete in the third edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

“With the Winter Olympic Games now less than 100 days away and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games just around the corner, APN Outdoor sends our very best wishes to all athletes getting set to wear the fern next year,” says Watkins.

“Our outdoor media and billboards are perfect mediums to help build excitement across the country and rally support for our teams as they take on the world.”

New Zealand Olympic Committee chief executive Kereyn Smith adds that it’s thrilled APN Outdoor has come on board with the teams through to 2020.

“The APN Outdoor team understand the hard work and hours of dedication our athletes commit to getting to the games, and their support and outdoor media reach will form an instrumental part in helping us to share their stories with New Zealanders.”
