Air New Zealand mixes safety with largesse in Oz, as second grabaseat animation released

Youtube VideoThe WLG pop-up restaurant in Fitzroy, Melbourne, is now into its second week and it’s proving fairly popular with the locals, just as the first incarnation did in Sydney. And Air New Zealand has jumped on the bandwagon by getting a few of its cabin crew to perform an in-restaurant safety video and dishing out free return flights to Welly to 60 lucky diners.

Not surprisingly, the giveaway, which was intended to highlight the increased schedule frequency between Melbourne and Wellington as part of the airline’s alliance partnership with Virgin Australia, was very well-received, although, in keeping with many other public stunts organised by brands, the performance itself seemed to get a fairly lukewarm, possibly even brucewarm, reception. Still, if you were ranking yesterday’s airline marketing efforts, it certainly trumps Qantas, which is still feeling the effects of the #QantasLuxury Twitter firestorm.

While we’re on the topic of airlines, Contagion has released the next instalment of its animated YouTube ads for grabaseat.

Youtube VideoAnd Air New Zealand has also launched its pretty damn cool new airpoints card with an ad featuring Phil Keoghan.
