Ads of the week: 3 May

Who’s it for: Paper Plus by FCB

Why we like it: It’s common knowledge teenage boys aren’t always the most affectionate and it’s nice that this spot shows while they don’t constantly show it, they really do love their mums. No doubt there will be tears in the eyes of mums around the country if boys seek inspiration from this ad for Mother’s Day.

Who’s it for: Co-operative Bank by Socialites

Why we like it: As one Facebook comment on this ad pointed out, topping someone up at the supermarket “is what makes us uniquely Kiwi”. It might not be the most original idea, but it’s gone viral, clocking up over 1.3 million views, over 16,000 shares and 34,000 likes since its launch on 20 April, proving it resonates with the audience.

Who’s it for: NZ Olympic Committee by Chillbox Creative

Why we like it: Created to mark the 100 day countdown to the Rio Olympics, the clip plays on the idea that New Zealand is the first to see the sun and therefore the first country to start preparing for the games. It includes beautiful imagery, powerful shots of Kiwi athletes training at the crack of dawn and a spine-tingling haka, which we’re sure would resonate with most Kiwis
