Ads of the Week: 11 July

Who’s it for: Tourism New Zealand by TBWA Sydney

Why we like it: Tourist ads are known for montages of beautiful scenery and this spot is no different, as it manages to fit the length of the country, above and below the sea, into two minutes. It also keeps to the clean, green, and pure message by showing off crystal clear water and environments undisturbed by humans. And if that’s not enough to entice people to plan a trip to New Zealand right away, the catchy tune of Iggy Pop’s ‘The Passenger’ lingers in the head as a reminder.

Why we like it: The America’s Cup win has been a long time coming for Emirates Team New Zealand—having last picked it up in 2000 and going on to win the Louis Vuitton Cup in the following competitions—and this spot makes no secret of the losses haunting the team. Represented in the form of a cheeky American sailor that lingers around local supporters, the spot shows there was no need to burn sage or sandalwood to rid us of his presence. Instead, sailing hard and well with the backing of the country was enough to cleanse the negative spirit from our shores.

Why we like it: We know New Zealand’s dairy products are exported overseas and this video takes audiences on that journey to show them where the products go and what they’re used for. The contrast between New Zealand’s green pastures covered in cows and a high-end restaurant in Hong Kong with Michelin star chefs suggests the two are worlds apart. However, Anchors’ presence in the kitchen is a familiar sight. The desserts created look amazing and New Zealand viewers will surely agree with farmer Bill Aubrey’s sentiment that there’s a real sense of pride in producing some of the best food in the world.
