Sliding Doors takes cakes at Grande ORCAs

It was was a double-whammy for Anne Boothroyd and Brigid Alkema from Clemenger BBDO (WGN) at the Grande ORCA awards, with ‘The People’ overwhelmingly agreeing with the judges and picking ‘Sliding Doors’ for the New Zealand Transport Agency as their favourite radio ad.

You can download the winning entry here intersections-sliding-doors. And all the finalists can be listened to here.

Sliding Doors was a clear winner in both awards: it was marked highly by the judges in every criterion and took over a quarter of the People’s Choice votes. The last double winner was back in 2003 when Darryl Parsons and Jeneal Rohrback took the Grande ORCA and the People’s Choice for their 42 Below Vodka campaign.

Hark! The glowing comments from the judges (Peter Ogden, executive creative director at JWT; Tony Bradbourne, creative director at Special; Harriet Crampton, GM creative services at The Radio Network; Carlos Savage: copywriter at Barnes, Catmur & Friends; and Tom Davidson, national creative director at MediaWorks Radio) included: “Great idea, great use of radio and great production!”; “Great use of the medium to really bring this idea to life”; “It’s a great idea that has real cut through”; “A fine idea, expertly refined.”

The ad will now be entered into the Cannes Lions Radio Awards by The Radio Bureau and in June they will both be flown to France to see Sliding Doors judged on the international stage. As People’s Choice winners, they will also have $1,000 spending money. And as the winning client, the NZ Transport Agency will receive a radio campaign to the value of $50,000.

And, to honour the ORCA winners, listen to this magnificent song about the graceful sea beast.
