10 billion bites taken from the apple

Showing that people are still willing to pay for their music, Apple® today announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded over 10 billion songs from the iTunes® Store.

Johnny Cash will forever hold a special place in iTunes® downloading history, with his song ‘Guess Things Happen That Way’ being the 10 billionth download.  The song was downloaded by American Louie Sulcer who as the winner of the iTunes Countdown to 10 Billion Songs, will receive a US$10,000 iTunes Gift Card – now that’s a lot of downloading.

“We’re grateful to all of our customers for helping us reach this amazing milestone,” says Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “We’re proud that iTunes has become the number one music retailer in the world, and selling 10 billion songs is truly staggering.”
