New creative director

Rainger & Rolfe have ramped up its creative offering with the hire of creative director, Chris Long.

Long joins from 99, where he’s spent the last five years as the creative group head. During that time he was involved in numerous award-winning campaigns for clients like New World and Genesis Energy, most notably picking up a Gold Effie for work on women’s shoe brand Ziera.

Rainger & Rolfe managing partner Ant Rainger says Long's hire is a game-changer for the agency.

Brand new role

After creating the role in August, Stuff has appointed Ben Rose as the general manager of newspapers, starting in January 2019.

Reporting directly to CEO Sinead Boucher, Rose will be responsible for driving the performance of Stuff’s newspapers, working across all areas of the business to cement the future of the award-winning print portfolio. His primary focus will be on ensuring Stuff’s papers are as fresh, appealing and relevant as they can be to readers and advertisers, and exploring new revenue opportunities in print.

Rose says he is excited to start the new challenge next year.

"To be able to help define their future, demonstrate their value to readers, and work with advertisers and senior decision-makers in New Zealand businesses to grow their bottom line through the powerful medium of print is a real privilege.”

Boucher says the role was created to show the company's commitment to the future of newspapers. 

"Ben brings a laser focus on defining the future of our newspaper portfolio, from our dailies and Sundays to our community titles, and I am really looking forward to having him onboard.”

Having held executive level sales and marketing roles, Rose has a background working with advertisers and agencies on growing revenue, as well as managing the operational side of business. He joins Stuff from nib New Zealand, where he has been the general manager of direct sales and partnerships, collaborating with Stuff on the health insurance product, Done.

New appointment

Independent research company Fiftyfive5 today announced that it has appointed Lucia Henare as a consultant in its Auckland office as the company expands across the Asia Pacific.

Henare is one of 14 new staff across three offices of Fifityfive5 following significant growth from local and global client demand. Boasting a roster of more than 100 clients, spanning Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the U.S. and Europe, Fiftyfive5 will add staff in its Auckland, Sydney and Singapore offices. 

Henare brings with her a wealth of experience in advanced analytics, further strengthening the Auckland team’s consulting and quantitative capabilities.

She recently made the move back to Auckland following a two-year stint in Canada where she worked as a research consultant with NRG Research Group, a western Canadian-based agency with a strong focus on public opinion research. Her role involved close collaboration with local government as they worked to enhance citizen engagement and evaluate the customer experience, at both the corporate level and across Transit, Community Housing and Parking. Henare also provided research consulting and advanced analytics to public and private sector clients in banking, energy, real estate, lotteries and educational institutions.

Prior to moving to Canada, Henare accumulated over 10 years’ experience in New Zealand across marketing strategy and market research, working in the FMCG (Meadow Fresh, GWF, Nestle Purina, Tasti, Hansells), QSR (Restaurant Brands, Carl’s Jr, Texas Chicken), grocery retail (Foodstuffs), insurance (AA Insurance, Tower Insurance) and agribusiness (PGG Wrightson) sector. She has extensive research experience including brand and advertising tracking, sensory research, new product development and customer satisfaction.

Fiftyfive5 New Zealand managing partner Richard Hall says the new appointments are part of a commitment to continue to grow the company in order to deliver clients' needs.

Changes

Brian Ferris will be joining Loyalty New Zealand as chief data and analytics officer from January 2019, based in the Wellington office.

Lizzy Ryley, CEO of Loyalty New Zealand says after a lengthy international search, it is delighted to welcome Ferris.

"We believe we have found someone who has the passion and energy to build valuable, commercially focussed insights with our partners from one of NZ’s largest datasets."

Ferris joins Loyalty NZ from Nike where he spent the last three and a half years as the EMEA Data and Analytics Director, building and leading the team’s capability; migrating the business to the cloud and building an advanced analytics function to deliver value to the business.

With over 18 years working in Information Technology, Ferris has extensive experience leading data and analytics teams while managing projects and building solutions in a global environment.  

“I’m really looking forward to working at Loyalty NZ and with the LAB360 team.  I feel that this is a great opportunity and a natural progression from my work at Nike where I built new platforms and developed pragmatic and commercially focused advanced analytical tools,” says Ferris.

“I’d also like to thank Erin Thomas who has been our Acting Chief Data and Analytics Officer for the past three months. Erin has shown exceptional leadership in her ability to step into this role on a temporary basis and we look forward to working closely with her as Brian transitions into the role,” says Ryley.

The tail end of 2018 brought with it some major announcements between media companies and the booming out-of-home market. Nearly two months since NZME and Go Media enacted their partnership and MediaWorks and QMS Media announced their proposed merger, we have a chat with media agencies to see whether the latest developments are a sign of things to come.
