Taking the lead

MediaWorks has appointed Cathy O’Sullivan as head of digital for Newshub where she will lead Newshub’s strategy and editorial direction for its digital properties, including newshub.co.nz, social channels and other platforms.

Originally from Ireland, Cathy O’Sullivan has nearly 20 years’ experience in digital, print and broadcast media, most recently as the managing editor of Noted and Now To Love for Bauer. Prior to this, she held roles as Auckland editor-in-chief for Fairfax Media, head of news for New Zealand Herald and editor of nzherald.co.nz.

MediaWorks chief news officer Hal Crawford says O’Sullivan has a deep understanding of both product and content when it comes to news as well as years of experience engaging New Zealand audiences.

O’Sullivan commences the role in early June.

Fresh faces

Saturday has welcomed creative director David Storey and senior account manager Rose Steele to the team.

Storey brings with him 20 years’ experience, having worked on accounts including Aston Martin, Santander and Mercedes-Benz as well as led projects for Vodafone, Mercury, NZSO and Organ Donation NZ.

Meanwhile, Steele joins with a cornucopia of skills honed from experience working on the likes of Ford, Fonterra, Silver Fern Farms and NZTE. Aside from her creative, strategic and project management strengths, Rose brings PR, social media, and campaign planning acumen.

A new home

PR agency Thrive has opened an office in the Gold Coast, the fifth office in its network.

It’s Thrive’s second Queensland location, following the opening of its Brisbane office in 2016. Thrive’s other locations include Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

The new office also follows a succession of activity with Swimming Australia, Optus’ community initiatives, Ubet and the announcement of Cisco’s Commonwealth Games sponsorship. Thrive will also work closely with Bauer Media on local initiatives.

PP and activations agency Darkhorse NZ has announced its new partnership with global digital educational platform Unfiltered.

Darkhorse will act as Unfiltered’s local brand experience and strategic PR partner to raise the brand profile and awareness of the company in the New Zealand market.

Co-founder and chief executive of Unfiltered, Jake Millar, says he has big plans for 2018 to further bring the Unfiltered experience to life in new and innovative ways, so the decision to partner with Darkhorse was easy.

“Everything about Darkhorse aligns with the Unfiltered brand, vision and goals. The opportunity to join forces with such a disruptive brand is very exciting, and we can’t wait to build an ambitious live event series together, as well as co-create content to help New Zealand entrepreneurs smash their PR goals.”

Darkhorse and Unfiltered will be rolling out a new business academy channel on Unfiltered.tv that will focus on providing advice on both the PR and activations industries.

Darkhorse co-founder Mike Hewitt says he is looking forward to working with Unfiltered as it continues to challenge the way people learn business and entrepreneurship.

“We are very excited to be appointed as the brand experience and PR strategic partner with Jake and the team at Unfiltered. Our brands have a lot of synergies and share the same vision to keep pushing our respective industries forward through a disruptive approach, challenging the norm to deliver the best results for our clients and customers.”
