Taking the lead

Auckland-based design tech studio Rush has announced the appointment of its new chairman, Bruce Cotterill.

Cotterill is currently the chairman of listed property investor Asset Plus and Swimming New Zealand.  He is a director of law firm, Duncan Cotterill, and accounting services firm, Nexia NZ.

His executive career included roles as chief executive of real estate group Colliers International in both Australia and New Zealand, magazine publisher ACP Media, sports apparel manufacturer Canterbury International and Yellow Pages Group NZ.

Speaking of the appointment, chief executive of Rush Pavan Vyas, says that the company has gone through an exceptional growth curve in the last two years and now was the “right time in the company’s history to add top-tier director level leadership to help the team focus on the future”.

With the recruitment of an executive leader and director like Cotterill, Rush will gain exceptional guidance, challenge and a framework for solid governance at the board level.

“Undergoing a thorough selection process and being well-connected in the New Zealand business ecosystem, we had the pleasure of meeting some exceptional candidates. Bruce has worked with us on our strategy and planning throughout our progression, so it’s great to have someone who understands Rush and the continuity that allows,” Vyas says.

“He brings a unique commercial perspective to the room, with such an extensive background in global enterprise.  We are incredibly delighted to have Bruce on board and we look forward to getting stuck into future planning.”

Rush is pleased to have settled on a new chairman after previous chair Ray Thomson sadly passed away suddenly last year.

“Ray was a big believer that it would be necessary to round out our board with independent leadership to help us grow when the time was right, and this is the first important step.”

Cotterill said that he is excited to be working with the Rush team. He hasn’t chaired a business quite like Rush, but he likes the enormity of the challenge of taking them from where they are, to achieve much bigger things on a global stage.

“These guys are outstanding at what they do, and they deliver real value for their clients. One of the things that really stood out for me was their commitment to their purpose of design technology with corporate partners to better serve humankind. No one else I have come across is driving this thinking and it’s a very stimulating group to be a part of. I am looking forward to the opportunities ahead.”

New opportunities

PR and communications agency Adhesive has appointed Eleisha Balmer as its new head of PR in New Zealand.

Balmer joins the Auckland-based office where she will lead the team and client portfolio across a very diverse range of industries including; consumer tech, travel, insurance and eCommerce.

Following six years at Mango Communications, Balmer offers a wealth of experience in driving effective communications campaigns and has worked with leading clients; Accor Hotels, Specsavers, Breville, Tourism Fiji, H&M, DDB and Beam Suntory.

Adhesive is still proudly independent and the agency now operates across three offices in Sydney, London and Auckland.

The agency has invested heavily into specialists who lead teams that service traditional media relations, content production and strategy, digital and social, corporate communications, B2B, sponsorship leverage, media training and experiential.

Mike Maurice, founder and managing director, says, “We’re extremely excited to have Eleisha join the team. From the outset we were impressed with her critical thinking and approach to problem solving. Eleisha comes with a strong background and experience, so we couldn’t happier to have her on-board to take Adhesive to the next level in Auckland.

“I would also like to thank Lwindi Ellis whom Eleisha takes the reins from as Head of Public Relations, New Zealand. We wouldn’t have the very strong New Zealand foundation without Lwindi’s hard work,” Maurice adds.

Balmer says it’s an exciting time to be working in PR with clients understanding the value it can add to their business.

“One of the reasons I knew Adhesive was the right move for me was the agency structure and the talent within the team. With an in-house creative director, a head of integration and a B2B and issues lead in addition to the smart, ambitious, talented practitioners, there isn’t a brief we can’t tackle.  I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck in and being a part of this indie-success story”.

Breath of fresh air

Clint Ulyatt has joined Auckland-based boutique brand agency Fuman.

Ulyatt has taken up the reigns of account service looking after existing clients and new business. Fuman has been in business for over 15 years with founder creative director Jon Chapman-Smith at the helm.

“Having worked with many of New Zealand’s leading brand agencies with their recruiting needs I had a strong steer on the market. The opportunity to join Jon was like a breath of fresh air,” says Ulyatt.

“Fuman has flown below the radar for a long time – I’d liken it to walking backwards into the spot-light. We have an awesome list of past and present clients, some small-scale others large. Jon and the team are passionate about brand, true craftsmen and above-all good people. It has been a great time to come on board, we’ve just completed a rebrand for leading coffee brand Hummingbird as well as a host of other work.”

“Fu translates to good fortune; it signifies happiness, fresh starts, abundance and wealth. The thing about fortune is it favours the bold — those who act decisively and with the courage to create their own fate. The work we do here at Fuman is brave, authentic realisations of a brand’s vision,” adds Ulyatt.

“From humble beginnings, Fuman has grown into a multi-discipline, award-winning practice. We span brand creation to brand evolution, across every touch point – an end-to-end realisation of how a brand lives and breathes.”
