More creative changes at Whybin\TBWA as Fedyszyn and McMahon depart

After two years at WhybinTBWA, joint creative directors Lisa Fedyszyn and Jonathan McMahon have departed.

Executive creative director Dave King confirmed their departure and said the pair finished up at the end of last year. He says they have a few options in front of them but it’s not clear where they’re heading. When asked whether they would be replaced, King said it is taking the opportunity to look at the make-up of the creative department.

Fedyszyn and McMahon worked at Colenso BBDO before shifting across to DDB during Toby Talbot’s reign. Talbot then headed off overseas, before returning to WhybinTBWA in 2013 for the post-Devo/Blood phase. And before he even set foot in the country, he convinced Fedyszyn and McMahon, as well as Steve Kane, to move down the hill from DDB to Mayoral Drive.

Kane left in March last year to take up the role of managing director at Y&R and Talbot left in May for a role with DDB in Sydney. Before he left, Talbot and chief executive Todd McLeay announced the appointment of eight new creatives: Nathan Cooper as digital creative director, Phil Kelly in the newly created role of head of design, senior creative team Julian Andrews and Tim Huse, creative team Smeta Chhotu-Patel and Guillaume Calmelet and Tom Johnson and Tom Knighton

Senior planners Clare Leitch and Steve Clark also joined WhybinTBWA Auckland in permanent roles last year, rounding out the agency’s planning offering headed up by David McIndoe.

While WhybinTBWA lost 2degrees to Special and said farewell to the remaining chunk of Mercury Energy, it has had a few victories as well, winning Bell Tea, completing a large Trade Me project, re-signing a one-year contract with its biggest client ANZ (although it appeared to miss out on the fun bit), winning ‘The Landing‘ project with Auckland Airport and being appointed as a strategic and creative partner for Yellow’s upcoming brand refresh.
