ASB’s Simon Tong moves to new role of executive general manager of digital, data and brand

ASB’s Simon Tong has moved seats to the newly created role of executive general manager of digital, data and brand from his role as executive general manager of technology, innovation and payments.

Tong has been with the bank since November last year when he moved from his position as CEO of Stuff (formerly Fairfax Media in New Zealand).

In Tong’s previous at ASB he led the team responsible for technology performance, payments and the development of innovative solutions, enhancements and transformational projects.

The new role is focused on helping drive the bank’s digital transformation and our focus on good outcomes for the community it serves by harnessing those capabilities.

When asked what it involves, Tong says: “Accountability for all things digital, the bank’s data and analytics programme, brand marketing, sponsorship and our community activity as well as events, the bank’s Innovation programme and payments strategy.”

He says the ASB brand promise and its standing in the community has a huge role to play for it and is an area of renewed focus.

“I’m excited to be involved on the client side of the marketing and advertising industry after almost four years as CEO of Fairfax.”

Alongside Tong’s move, Christian May, who has been the acting executive general manager of marketing and communications since last year has returned to his existing role as general manager of corporate communications.
