Telecom launches new TV infomercial to help Kiwis with their difficult tech questions

Telecom wants New Zealanders to be savvier with their technology, starting with viewers of One News. The country’s largest telco is launching a series of new TV spots called Tech in a Sec, to help Kiwis figure out their damn-fangled devices.

Tech in a Sec is scheduled to air during the first ad break of One News between Sunday and Thursday, starting this weekend.  The segments sees host Matt Gibb answer commonly asked technology questions with the help of Telecom staff,  and includes simple tutorials for phones and broadband. QR code fans (yes, all three of you) will be pleased to know there’s even a video about QR scanners.

Update: TVNZ is the production company, and also responsible for the scripts, says Telecom.

StopPress has seen an introduction video with Gibb and Telecom CMO Jason Paris, as they discuss technology on a cheesy set designed like a family home.

Currently links to the videos on YouTube are locked to the public. From what we’ve seen, we can say people with a basic understanding of phones and networks will likely be unimpressed, but the quick and easy to follow tips might be appreciated by those still struggling with activating 3G hotspots and connecting to wifi.

Launching alongside the video segments is a new Tech in a Sec section on the Telecom website, where users can watch the videos (again these videos are currently locked) and browse through Telecom’s FAQs.
