Sky and DDB gather the crowds to bring down King Joffrey

Sky and creative partner DDB are giving Game of Thrones fans a chance to take down their most hated character, King Joffrey. It's all in the name of promoting the launch of the series' fourth season and the stunt had some British inspiration.

Thanks to production company Finch, there's a seven-metre-high statue of the king in Aotea Square in Auckland and while fans won't be physically topping it, they can use their social media voice to bring him down.

The rope around the statue's neck is attached to a cog, which pulls Joffrey closer to the ground with every tweet that uses the hashtag #bringdowntheking.

If you don't get out much, you can also watch the action via a live stream.

“It’s great to be working with clients that want to create ideas that bring the fictional, digital and real worlds together," says DDB executive creative director Shane Bradnick. "Let’s bring the bastard down."

In Britain a dragon skull promoted the launch of Games of Thrones season three on that country's Blinkboard streaming service, but that stunt isn't related to the Sky SoHo channel promotion.
