The much-attended, much-admired TED conferences in California have spawned a local baby: TEDx, to be held in Auckland October 1.
The youth-orientated event is being organised by Kiwi TED delegate , Richard Hollingum of The Department of Doing.
“As well as talks from eight extraordinary people there’ll be inspirational interludes and the chance to meet the extraordinary people attending,” says Holligum, who will be well known to many in adland.
TED started in 1984 as a conference, bringing together remarkable people from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then, it has become an institution; the platform for some of mankind’s greatest ideas and creativity.
TEDx is an officially sanctioned, but independently organised TED event.
Speakers include rebellious chemist Ray Avery, philanthropist Scott Gilmour, athletes, technologists and medicos.
TEDx Auckland is on Thursday 1 October at Westlake Boys’.
Get along. It’s free to attend; and if it’s anything like big event, it will be amazing. There’s only 200 tickets to go around though.
