Communities in the spotlight at upcoming PRINZ conference

It’s a big bad dynamic media world out there, one in which it’s harder than ever to make a splash and those who put a step wrong are instantly pulled up. To that end, PRINZ is hosting Our Space Our Place – reshaping communities, a conference that’s all about communicating with shifting audiences on-the-ground and online.

Communities are places where we come together. But today, place becomes space and physically located communities are inter-layered with online communities of interest.

How do place and space co-exist and interact? And, how do we communicate effectively when our audiences are online as often as they are on-the-ground?

As our audiences and stakeholders move between place and space, so must we as communicators, with increasing pace and agility. Understanding how communities are changing and the forces that drive them will inform successful communications practice for the next decade.

International speakers include Professor Jim Macnamara talking about ‘the social organisation’, Professor Pradip Thomas of the University of Queensland on ‘communicating for social change’, Dr Andy Ruddock of Monash University in Melbourne looking at ‘fandom’ and the creation of authentic experiences for sports fans online; and Sentia Media’s John Croll discussing media measurement and evaluation in the Asia Pacific century.

From New Zealand, delegates will hear from the communicators at the forefront and in the crisis room for Rena in the Bay of Plenty and from the communicators responding to the Christchurch earthquakes.Day one plays host to Jared Julian from the Department of Internal Affairs, leading the government’s social media guidance project, Nat Torkington of Kiwi Foo Camp and the NZ Open Government project, and John Buckley, aka Gadget Guy, speaking on the rise of the ‘digital Kiwi’.

Day two ends with a focus on the future, with the conference closing with Professor David McKie of Waikato Management School looking ahead locally and globally.

Earlybird prices are available until April 23. And the good folk at PRINZ are extending a special offer StopPress readers can take advantage of: tickets at PRINZ member rates even for non-members.
