Chris Bleackley joins EightyOne

Creative shop EightyOne has appointed Chris Bleackley as creative director. While Bleackley has long been part of the picture at EightyOne, he’s now joined to take the helm and is helping to run the ship.

Partner at EightyOne Matt West says “Bleackley will be spending most of his time on paradigm shifting scam ads and award entries”.

He adds having Bleackley in the mix is going to help big time.

“He’s a good friend and as hungry as ever.”

Bleackley has been described as a “Saatchi veteran” but was most recently at Assignment Group, where he is known for his contribution to Whittaker’s, which won the Long-Term Marketing Excellence Award at the 2017 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards for its ‘New Zealand’s most loved and trusted brand’ work.

West says Bleackley has always been part of the picture EightyOne as its developed a number of its own brands over the years, “namely, Sacred Spring, a range of gin distilled in Golden Bay, Ultra Football, the world’s biggest football store based in Sydney, and an online recruitment matching company, Allsorts”.

EightyOne also boasts a client list that includes Trade Me, Kiwibank, NZ Rugby and Nike, and has recently acquired Wellington brand, Fix and Fogg, to its list.

Furthermore, the company has recently moved destinations to level one of Wellington’s historic Press Hall. The company works alongside its younger siblings, DOT Loves Data and Octave and while each company is different, the three collaborate under one roof.

West jokes that truth be told, Bleackley was hired because it needed to bolster the EightyOne, DOT Loves Data and Octave indoor football team.

“Looks like we have an ex-pat who loves to point and shout, but is half a yard short. We’re more hopeful of the work.”

Beyond the football team, Bleackley’s hire adds to the EightyOne, DOT Loves Data and Octave family, which West says is made up of fifty employees and is expected to see continued growth.

“Everyone wants to talk data at the moment which will come as no surprise. The DOT team is doing some amazing stuff. EightyOne and Octave are bringing plenty to the data table as well, certainly in how it’s represented and interacted with.”

“Future is bright, world is ours, watch this space, and all that stuff etc etc.”

Update: Chris Bleackley has not left Assignment Group, and will work for both EightyOne and Assignment Group.
