Nickelodeon NZ has released a new logo to replace the “historical splat”, with new livery launching on-air, on-line and in all off-air marketing collateral. And the Nick brand police are obviously on high alert, chasing down transgressors who don’t follow its very strict, specific, capitalised and unintentionally entertaining logo guidelines.
Lauren Nola, channel manager for Nickelodeon NZ (the channel is in its tenth year in New Zealand and is seen in over 700,000 households on SKY channel 041), says it will be the first Nickelodeon branch in Asia Pacific to use the new look.
“February is traditionally the time of year in New Zealand when television channels launch new programmes and frequently they also freshen up their branding at the same time,” she says. “As we are launching a host of new shows and a new programme strand, Nick@Nite [from 1 March]it made sense to package it together under the new banner. It’s great to be first off the block.”
Effective Monday 1 February, the new Nickelodeon logo will replace all previous branding. Updated sub-brand logos will also appear for the pre-school themed programmes, Nick Jr. and Nick@Nite, the early teen evening strand that is launching in March.
And herewith, the draconian guidelines, with the StopPress favourite being ‘the logo is always orange’ (the branding equivalent of ‘always blow on the pie’, perhaps?).
