Media Awards 2012: You be the judge!

For the first time, CAANZ is publicly calling for top media minds to help decide the illustrious 2012 Media Awards winners. Those keen on judging the awards can apply now, or nominate someone else they think perfect for a judging role. Rather than casting aspersions on any previous judges, this new process adds a touch more gravitas to the proceedings, and should ensure only the most knowledgeable and experienced people are representing the industry – leading to greater consistency across categories.

The final panel of 2012 judges will be hand-picked by the convener of judges, Mark Jenner, and the awards’ committee. Jenner says he will be looking for applicants with a thorough knowledge of media in the 21st century, who have a proven track record of delivering great results and want to have some fun in the process. CAANZ chief executive Paul Head encourages people with relevant backgrounds, expertise and attitude to apply or nominate others for judging positions.

“The outcome of the awards is influenced by the expertise and energy of the judges, so agency and media leaders should ensure they nominate their best and brightest people to help decide the 2012 winners. Additionally, I know Mark and the awards’ committee will make it an enjoyable process”.

Successful candidates will be contacted on 17th February. The revised judging application process is just one part of the wider Media Awards overhaul for 2012 and beyond, with the intent to bring the programme in line with international best practice. CAANZ has decided to bring the Media, Axis, and Effie’s Agency of the Year awards all under one banner, the Fairfax/AdMedia Agency of the Year. Independent Agency of the Year has been replaced by Specialist Agency of the Year along with new categories Best Launch, Best Communication Strategy and Client of the Year. Plus, its now easier than ever to enter, with less forms and fewer words needed to flesh out entries.

The deadline for applications and nominations is Tuesday 7th February. Application forms are available from the CAANZ website under Media Awards judging, or by e-mailing [email protected]. For further information about the new judging process, dates and requirements, please visit www.caanz.co.nz.
