Fairfax has teamed up with Sky Sport, linking its Fan Pass offering to the Stuff news site allowing rugby fans to live stream the World Cup games for a fee. Fairfax’s national sports editor Aaron Lawton shares his insights on the partnership.

The Alternative Commentary Collective aka the ACC who made a name for themselves after commentating on the ICC Cricket World Cup earlier this year have struck back, this time to report on the Rugby World Cup 2015 and have teamed up with Jockey as part of its ‘Lucky Jockeys’ campaign to find an eighth member of the collective to join the current crew in London.
Often hardcore sports fans act if they are part of the team they are supporting. This definitely seems to be the case of football fans. When discussing how the team performed the word “we” is thrown around a lot. “We really stuck it to them this time”, “We sure came out on top in that last game”, “We caned those guys”. You get the picture. Rexona’s new ad attempts to channel this collective consciousness showing that while game day preparation for an All Black will differ significantly to that of a fan, many of their movements are similar, illustrating how ‘we’ (fans and players) move together. We’re sure many New Zealanders are in disbelief as to how nearly four years have passed since the last Rugby World Cup. Four years since we yelled out to strangers in the street whooping with collective joy after the All Blacks secured the Cup after a nail-biting game with the French and four years since the victory sparked a baby boom across the nation.
