The first results of the GfK Radio Survey of the year are out and it appears the industry has a lot to celebrate as 85 percent of the New Zealand population (10+) tunes into the radio each week. That’s 3.63 million New Zealanders.
“Imagine stations with those shares now,” said radio industry veteran David Gibbs upon seeing radio survey results from a quarter-century ago—a fitting response, given there was once a single station with an 18 percent share of New Zealand ears. We look back to see how much radio has changed.
Radio New Zealand can join in the celebrations following the release of its survey results, which show it’s number two for audience reach against its commercial competitors.
Today the Radio Broadcasters Association announced GfK would be the new provider for the commercial radio survey from 2016, taking over longtime research contract-holder TNS.
