One of the biggest nights of the direct marketing calendar was held last week in New York, and, as has been the case for the past few years, there was plenty of New Zealand representation, with Clemenger BBDO, Colenso BBDO, Ogilvy & Mather and Republik among the winners.
Ad awards season is pretty much over for another year, but there were a few more announcements over the weekend, and once again Kiwi agencies and clients did very well, with DraftFCB’s Driving Dogs taking Best in Show at the Caples and Colenso BBDO taking most awarded agency at both Caples and Digital Asia Awrds.
Fresh from winning more Caples metal than any other agency in the world over the weekend, Colenso BBDO followed that up by winning Campaign Asia Pacific’s New Zealand creative agency of the year award ahead of DDB Group and DraftFCB, with creative chairman Nick Worthington named as the Australasian region’s best creative director. DDB Group also backed up a good year on the awards front, with Rapp/Tribal winning digital agency of the year ahead of Colenso BBDO and TBWA\DAN, while Spark PHD was rewarded for an impressive year with the media agency of the year title, ahead of Naked and OMD.
Rob Banks heads to New York, Naked appoints a head of Australasian ideas and viral fun glutton Rob Whitey McConnaughy joins the Sweet Shop.
The finalists of the direct and interactive marketing showcase that is the John Caples Awards have been announced, with Colenso on top from the local shops with 18 nods, followed by DDB and Rapp Tribal with nine, DraftFCB with seven, AIM Proximity and Republik with three, and .99, Publicis Mojo, Clemenger BBDO and Special Group on one. And in other awards news, Colenso dominated the Digital Media Awards Asia awards recently with two golds and three silvers, while Naked won silver for Powerade Challenge and Rapp Tribal won bronze for Telecom.
New Zealand maintained its reputation as a direct marketing powerhouse at the 32nd John Caples International Awards in New York late last week, with Colenso and AIM Proximity’s Yellow Treehouse once again in the upper echelons and DraftFCB and TBWA\Whybin\Tequila also claiming some precious metal.
