Y&R staff around the world are celebrating Y&R NZ’s win of the GRANDY for the ‘McWhopper campaign’, the highest honour at the New York ANDY awards.
In some fun network camaraderie, Y&R staffers made their own McWhoppers, sharing them in this video.
The GRANDY is given to the agency that defines what it means to be a bold leader and a true risk-taker. Y&R was awarded for the ‘McWhopper’ event campaign in the Corporate Responsibility category.
The campaign saw Burger King publish an open letter calling for a ‘burger cease fire’ with corporate rivals McDonald’s, as a way of raising awareness for United Nations Peace Day. In the letter, it was proposed that the two restaurants join forces to create a symbolic hybrid burger – the ‘McWhopper’. Inviting McDonald’s to learn more about the burger, mcwhopper.com was created.
McDonald’s however declined the offer, meaning the burger was never officially made.
Y&R NZ is the first New Zealand agency to receive the accolade.
