A work of art or branded content?

Above Average, an online comedy distributor, has gone back in time to learn that branded content started in 1501.

It’s released a satirical video, titled ‘Branded Content: A History Revealed’, that attempts to demonstrate that the branded content buzz words are nothing new.

Begining with Michelangelo’s Statue of David, which it claims to be a piece of branded content for a local gym, to René Magritte’s The Son of Man painting in 1964, which it says saw fans put apples on their own faces and send in pictures.

Even ET is referred to as ‘The Reese’s Pieces Film’ for its use of the candy.

With year’s of examples to look at the video finishes with the question, what next for branded content. Pets, currency, self-driving branded content and branded content for the afterlife are all suggestions.
