Volkswagen meets Swan Lake

Remember when Jean-Claud Van Damme did the splits between two Volvo trucks? Now Volkswagen is playing in the mesmerising car ad space with a ballet-inspired spot to promote its Crafter van.

Set to music from Swan Lake, audiences watch as the vans seamlessly drive in formation. The white vans with a stand out black one, drive in circles, follow each other in a line, parallel park between each other, zig-zag in and out of each other and finally come together to form the Volkswagen logo in their headlights.

At the end, the drivers get out and bow, however, a lot of praise has to be given to the vehicles as they completed the manoeuvres with little intervention from the drivers. In fact, they parallel park themselves.

As well reminiscent of Volvo’s Van Damme spot, Volkswagen’s latest effort is also similar to Audi’s ‘Speed isn’t Everything’ spot. It shows an Audi in slow motion spinning around in circles and at the end, the black skid marks it’s left are used to form the Audi logo.
