The twangy Netflix of New Zealand

Netflix has finally arrived on New Zealand’s shores, and naturally one of our first responses is to parody the service in true Kiwi fashion, with the help of TaikaWaititi.

A great video appeared on Waititi’s Twitter feed this week advertising ‘Nitflux NZ’, “New Zealand’s best streaming site in the world”.

The whole video is a bit of a rip on the distinctive Kiwiana bro accent, hence ‘NitFlux', and it advertises the ‘service’ by saying it now has six (or sux) videos “streaming right now”. The video then urges viewers to visit the early '90s style flashy website.

The site features five sections including “contint”, “wanna shirt bro?” and “get NitfFlux” ("Just click here, fill out this form and fax it to us. Your order will be ready in 6-7 working months." Although it says each application will be reviewed by Helen Clark before the user is contacted by mail with an eight-step connection package. Sounds simple enough.

A stellar satirical effort for no discernable purpose, to be sure, and it's of similar parodic quality to ‘Neetflux’, which dubbed itself as New Zealand’s only satirical poster site and gained prominence during the election for its movie-poster roasting of, predominantly, John Key and the National Party, but politicians in general.
