Together they stand

One of the major struggles for news publishers is that the rise in online audiences and revenue has struggled to make up for the loss of print advertising and subscription revenue. And a new feature on nzherald.co.nz seems to give readers another reason not to pay for paper.

Using Thinglink, a platform that adds interactivity to images, NZME has brought its print and digital products even closer together by featuring links to the stories featured on the front page. The platform can also be used for e-commerce and education and some of the examples Thinglink gives for publishers, brands and small businesses show the potential for using imagery to engage an audience (and make more ad cash). But we couldn't help but be reminded of something from our past: Microsoft Encarta.

For all those Encarta lovers, Microsoft ceased publishing the encyclopaedia in 2009.
