Problems at the Beeb

The BBC has suffered two embarrasingly public epic fails. Newsreader Simon McCoy, whose past gaffes include appearing to snooze on the job, has now presented an item while clutching a ream of photocopy paper instead of his iPad.

Unless the stack of paper had some notes scrawled on it, it’s hard to see how that would be helpful. Perhaps he was returning to old fashioned journalism and away from newfangled tech.

The Independent reported the BBC as saying: “Instead of picking up his tablet to hold as he went to air, he mistakenly picked up a ream of paper that was sitting next to it. In the rush of live news, he didn’t have an opportunity to swap the items, so simply went with it.”

The other case was the ambiguous website headline tweeted by @davidbyers26, which read “More time granted to murder police”.

“Either an epic @BBCBreaking headline fail… or a terrible breakdown in law and order, he said. @paulkidd helpfully tweeted the New York Times‘ explanation of such lines as “crash blossoms”.
