From JABAT to JABAST

As the t-shirt says, Jono and Ben at Ten is like Hamish and Andy for people who hate Australians. Now the band of merry pranksters has been moved up the Friday night batting order from a half-hour slot at 10pm to an hour slot at 7.30pm. And they’ve celebrated the promotion with a clip showing some of the Facebook feedback that decision has generated.

Jono and Ben have proven to be one of MediaWorks’ most successful cross-platform entertainment properties, with a TV show, a daily Drive show on The Rock, a big social following (which it used for its pick-a-laugh skit) and some impressive commercial integration. And, while some of the spicy language might have to be toned down a bit so as not to harm the innocent ears of New Zealand’s youth, the team has already hosted a 7.30pm show to celebrate TV3’s ½ Half Century (in case you were wondering, MediaWorks pointed out “it was watched by an average audience of 339,400 New Zealanders aged 5+, and was a winner in the commercial demographics, with a 24.4 percent share of the 25-54 audience and a 35.1 percent share of the 18-39 audience”) and the pair also performed hosting duties at last year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

Boyce joked in a release that its move to primetime meant it has had to design a show incorporating cooking, home renovation, weight loss, singing and current affairs into one hour.

And, while we’re on the topic of Jono and Ben, here’s Rose Matafeo’s entertaining take on the 50 Shades of Grey phenomenon.
