A four-legged replacement

Brazillian pet retailer Petz has a solution for people stuck with a tattoo of their ex’s name.

In a ‘Love Again’ campaign by Ogilvy Brazil, it;s suggesting people with the problem find a new love with the same name—but it’s not a human love.

The supporting video features people talking about why they got the name of their ex-boyfriend or girlfriend tattooed on their body as well as a tattoo artist who says he’s always being asked to remove name tattoos after relationships fall apart. But before the artist can remove the tattoos of the people in the ad, they’re given a dog or cat to adopt. That pet comes with the name of the ex so the tattoo can be dedicated to the four-legged friend instead.

While the number of cute dog and cat videos being shared on social media suggests there’s huge love for them around the world, Petz isn’t the first brand to create clever ways to encourage people to turn that love into adoption.

Closer to home, Pedigree launched a campaign early this year to encourage empty nesters to adopt a rescue dog.

It looked a the impact a child moving out of home can have on parents and how a dog can fill that gap.
