Ford’s human racetrack

Whether it’s a BMW skidding on an aircraft carrierVolvo’s Live Test seriesHyundai’s empty car convoy or, closer to home, Holden’s Heartracing or Mini’s Driving Dogs, there’s no doubt automotive brands love a good stunt. And you can add Ford to that list after it launched a two minute clip featuring a host of Falcon fanatics who were recruited to line up along a custom-made racetrack in fetching blue overalls as Mark Winterbottom tried his best to avoid them.

As it says on the YouTube clip: “They came together to put their passion and their bodies on the line. These are not your average fans. They are the Falcon Fanatics.”

As part of the campaign, which was made in Australia, Ford is offering a test drive of the new XR8 at Hampton Downs to one lucky speed demon (enter here).

When BMW Canada released its bum-clenching clip ‘Ultimate Racetrack’, many called it as a fake. No-one from the brand or agency confirmed whether it was or not. In fact, they both encouraged speculation and maintained the mystery and it clocked up over six million views.

It’s not clear whether there was any visual jiggery pokery used on this one, but it seems unlikely the company would want the blood of its fans on its hands (although getting run over by a Falcon driven by a Bathhurst winner might be seen as a good way to go out if for some true blue Ford fans).

As expected, there is some intelligent debate between Ford and Holden lovers under the 15 second version of the ad, such as ‘ugly as shit get a Holden faggot’ and ‘Holdens are shit ya bitc#’.
