Virgin America created a way to experience everything its first class service has to offer without leaving the ground, by fitting out a shoe with all the luxuries.
The First Class Shoe was handcrafted in Milan from high-quality Italian white leather and features a stainless steel seat buckle accent, mood lighting, video display for movies, a rechargeable battery, a USB phone charger, WiFi enabled hotspot and an embossed Virgin America logo. And to make it even more luxurious, only one pair was made.
The special pair of shoes went to auction on Ebay, and while the purchase of such a pair of shoes may seem unnecessarily extravagant–particularly because watching a screen on your feet would be difficult– all proceeds went to Soles4Soles, a non-profit dedicated to fighting poverty.
Going to a good cause, the shoes sold for US$97,877 (approximately NZD$136,719), a price that would have allowed the winner to experience first class in the air a number of times. Perhaps they are afraid of flying.
