Consent is like a cup of tea

In response to continued problem of victim blaming in cases of rape cases, the Crown Prosecution Service in the United Kingdom has released an online clip that uses a simile that will resonate with every Briton – a cup of tea.

Using the act of offering a guest a cuppa as a vehicle to explain consent, the clip clearly outlines that there’s really no ambiguity involved when it comes to consent. And in much the same way that the people should be allowed to choose whether they want a warm drink or not, so too should they be able to choose whether they want to have sex.

The clip is particularly effective at explaining when consent is retracted and also when the person in question might not be in the position to give consent.
