We want you: Kiwibank and TVNZ request nominees for New Zealander of the Year Awards

TVNZ and Kiwibank are calling for nominations for the 2016 New Zealander of the Year Awards and showing off a refreshed visual identity developed by Assignment Group in a new TVC made by Blacksand.

The awards are now in their seventh year and while TVNZ says in a release they had gained recognition and prestige, the brand itself had evolved and felt the awards needed a focused and sophisticated approach to see it into the future.

“Kiwibank enlisted the help of their lead agency Assignment and worked with the awards office to articulate the vision for the awards and develop a strong, unique and contemporary visual identity that reflected the high calibre of the programme,” a TVNZ issued release says.

The release says inspiration for the design came from , the cloak presented to the New Zealander of the Year. “The main patterns in the cloak represent the myths and legends of a people and the pursuit of knowledge. The visual treatment allows the extraordinary Kiwis being recognised by the awards to be the main focus – taking centre stage while the sponsor branding is more subtle.”

Web agency Springload were brought on board to launch the new awards website which provides an enhanced user experience and slick new look.

TVNZ head of sales and marketing Jeremy O’Brien says the broadcaster feels privileged to be the media supporting partner of the 2016 awards. “we’re looking forward to sharing the stories of amazing Kiwis once the finalists are announced at the end of this year.”

In the meantime a TVNZ Blacksand-created TVC is now on air, calling for Kiwis to nominate people for the awards. TVNZ Blacksand executive creative director, Jens Hertzum says the refreshed award branding provided his team with a modern palate to draw from for the TVC.

“The new branding is beautiful and contemporary so we strived to bring it to life in the TVC. Our pairing of Jacqui and Scotty, the balance of black, white and gold motion graphics with music by the Electric Wire Hustle, creates an engaging TVC with strong local flavour and cut through.”
