TVCs of the Week: 21 January

Who's it for: Sky by DDB and the Sweet Shop

Why we like it: It's certainly no Close Calls compilation 2013, but it shows the power—and potential danger—of the broadcaster's long-awaited mobile app and website Sky Go. Plus, it's got a dog in it. And everyone knows the power of dogs in advertising. 

Who's it for: TAB by Sugar & Partners and Robber's Dog

Why we like it: Fishing is often a bit of gamble and, like some kind of modern day Ahab, a hirsute and rather nautical-looking John Leigh shows that gambling is also a little bit like fishing. 

Who's it for: The Great Food Race by MediaWorks' inhouse team and Ryan Heron

Why we like it: Combining racing and food is always entertaining, as footage of hot dog-eating competitions attests. And there's plenty of energy in this well-made promo for the network's new food competitive show.

With ​​Survivor New Zealand set to hit screens on 7 May, TVNZ has released another round of its campaign with a colourful, energetic video via TVNZ Blacksand, as well as unveiling the contestants. We chat to executive creative director Jens Hertzum about giving the local format a contemporary and fun feel.
