Tinkerbell, Mary Poppins and Cinderella sparkle around Auckland in Sky Movies Disney channel promo

Following the recent announcement that Sky TV had signed a long-term deal with The Walt Disney Company to add the Sky Movies Disney channel to its programming portfolio, the broadcaster released a short online video showing that the fairies, genies and flying nannies typifying the Disney experience had arrived in New Zealand.

Set in Auckland, the 45-second spot shows the fairy Tinkerbell flying from location to location, dropping fairy dust along the way. And everything on which the dust drops is magically transformed into the items easily recognisable from the Disney canon.

The spot was developed through a collaborative process between Sydney’s Ink Project, Sky and The Walt Disney Company and saw a global campaign updated to feature local landmarks.

Unlike the pop-up channels that Sky sometimes introduces during the school holidays, the Sky Movies Disney channel will be a permanent fixture available to subscribers on the broadcaster’s movie tier and adds to the already substantial volume of Disney content available on the various channels.

“The Disney Channel and Disney Junior are [already]known and loved channels to our Sky basic family viewers,” says Sky’s director of entertainment Travis Dunbar. “And with the launch of Disney XD at the end of last year, we have kids of all ages covered from pre-to-post school for a unique Disney journey.”

In addition to adding the new channel, the extension of the deal will also give Sky the rights to screen upcoming films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm on Sky Go and Neon—which is important given the rapid growth of digital streaming.
