Southern Cross celebrates diversity with Sparkle Screen

Southern Cross Health Society, with the help of Contagion, delivered some sun-smart sparkle to the Big Gay Out last Sunday with a glitter-filled sunblock.

A limited edition SPF 50+ ‘Sparkle Screen’ was on offer to festival goers to encourage them to be safe in the sun while celebrating the country’s diversity. And it proved so popular many complained it was not available for purchase.

Executive creative director Bridget Taylor says it was “enormously satisfying” seeing families, couples and even Bill English’s security officers sparkling safely in the sun.

As well as celebrating diversity, Southern Cross wanted to encourage it by bringing the crowd together with coloured brands. Festival goers—including Auckland mayor Phil Goff—were given one of six coloured bands on entry and encouraged to find other people to complete the set and win prizes.

Head of marketing Chris Watney says happiness is a big part of wellness and given the overwhelmingly positive response, it’s very happy to have been part of the day.
