Ray Avery calls for local thinkers and tinkerers to get loud and proud for NZ Innovators Awards

Innovation helps drives our economy. And, in the marcomms world,
innovation helps to drive effectiveness. But are you getting the
recognition you deserve? Sir Ray Avery is calling on enterprising Kiwi
minds and organisations to enter the New Zealand Innovators Awards. And who are you to argue with one of our country’s best-known innovators?

As the ambassador for the awards, which are now open for entries, he
sees recognition as a key component in advancing innovative ideas and
technologies.

“I encourage you to enter the awards. I did, and I won, and it
changed everything. Get out of the laboratory, or your shed, and
encourage others to do the same thing so we can all celebrate how clever
we are as Kiwis on the world stage,” he says.

Four years on from
his win at the 2008 awards, when they were known as the Bayer Innovators
Awards, he’s lending his familiar face to the initiative.

Bayer is once again the main sponsor, in partnership with Idealog
and Ideas Accelerator. And there’s also a repeat performance from the
humble paper clip, which is seen as a simple, incredibly
effective symbol of innovation at work.

Last year more than 120 entries poured in, with cloud-based POS system Vend named the supreme winner and DraftFCB’s The Journal taking out the innovation in marketing and communications category.

“We
have many innovative organisations here in New Zealand, so as a nation
we need to shout about our success loud enough for the rest of the world
to hear,” says Louise Webster, Ideas Accelerator owner and awards
director.

Bayer corporate communications manager William Malpass
says the awards celebrate and recognise great Kiwi innovations,
inventors and organisations that have invested in developing new
products, services and ventures as well as improving the performance of
their people and teams.

“Bayer is recognised globally for being a
highly innovative company, and so it is important that we help to
recognise and celebrate the innovation going on here in New Zealand.”
