Five years ago the incidence rate of breast cancer in New Zealand was one in ten. Now it’s one on nine. And, with New Zealand laying claim to one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the world, there is an urgent need to find a cure, something the Breast Cancer Cure Research Trust (BCCRT) hopes to achieve by 2018. But to reach that goal it needs some financial assistance, and Spark PHD, PHDiQ, Spark Activate and Saatchi & Saatchi have decided to take on the annual Round Taupo Relay in an effort to raise funds.
SparkPHD’s media director Nicky Greville says the Spark group are committed to helping the BCCRT in its quest to ensure a future free of breast cancer and will be sending a walking/running team down to the race on the 18/19th February.
“Together, our team will be running and walking 155km around Lake Taupo, starting at 10.30pm on the Friday night and going right through until Saturday afternoon. Each team consists of ten to eighteen members, either running or walking to complete the eighteen 5.2km to 14.4km legs.
“We’re looking for donations from our fine industry for the Spark Group team to finish the race, for individual legs, and, if people are feeling particularly cheeky, we’re open to dares to be performed during the race…for considerable donations of course.”
